Scientific Management
Winning brings SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT to the business world
Based in the concept “WE REIVENT YOUR BUSINESS MODEL”, Winning has evolved its positioning from Management Consulting to Scientific Management, becoming the first Consulting company in the world to adopt the model of Scientific Management in designing solutions for its clients.
Gone are the days when brightness tests in the workplace, the frequency and pause time during breaks or layout changes in the plants were tested in the laboratory independently and rigorously in order to increase productivity, rationalize resources or reduce waste. These principles where introduced by Frederick Taylor between 1880 and 1890 in a first attempt to apply the scientific method to engineering and management- later called scientific management.
Nowadays, the volatility of the economic and social context generates continuous and permanent disruptions in the status quo of the business models, constantly calling into question the dogmas (“assumptions”) of yore, raising the Darwinian principle to its peak executing on a daily basis the natural selection of companies that no longer depend on how large or well succeeded these have been in the past, but above all, how fast and intelligent in anticipating the future and creating, systematically, sustainable competitive advantage.
This imperative forces that the only certainty is the one of permanent change, often thwarted by a “higher power” that protects (generating unprepared monopolies for the future) or when it insists on not to facilitate, shoots many well succeeded companies to bankruptcy (we all remember the global giant BlockBuster). On the other hand, the need to grow quickly, increase market share and gain margin obliges the manager to take permanent measures, in constant effort to achieve goals and thrive. Many organizations are able to attain these goals in a quick and substantial way, while others expend a great amount of resources and time in a recursive process of trial and error.
It is in this wild scenario that only the permanent competitive advantage is the organizations’ intellectual humility, endowed with a rational madness to change quickly but intelligently. Let’s start with the basics: “why do customers buy next door?” or “why have clients left us?”, or will we continue to insist in making marketing campaigns to increase sales when the whole market knows our product and the problem is the price? Or will we create incentives for customer continuity without knowing the reason why they are leaving?
The biggest organizational mistakes are the assumptions converted into acts of faith, without any sustained scientific experimentation or verification. This is how scientific management allows the creation of an intelligent organizational culture which diagnoses the problem, isolates it in an objective way and evaluates the respective symptoms in an attempt of understanding the causes that originate and address these issues with an effective intervention plan. Throughout this process, dogmas, assumptions and emotional opinions or even the arrogance of not wanting to see the basics (“I have been around for a long time”) are left behind and what prevails is the logic, the inductive/deductive method and the strength of facts, the laboratory or the group intelligence.
The scientific management culture develops in the organization an aggressive curiosity, an enviable analytical depth, a robust process armed with the powerful tool “why”, collecting data, evidence, relationships and diagnosing, advising and intervening assertively. Throughout this process, independence and team exemption against the phenomenon in question are mandatory conditions, including the principle of intellectual humility that is what shelters us in doing the “reset” of all the emotional charge.
The scientific management model embodies the new positioning adopted by Winning is already being applied in 30% of the company’s customer portfolio, in sectors such as Banking, Retail, Hospitality, Information Systems, Transportation Services, Telecommunications and Public Administration.
Winning Scientific Management was established in 2012, currently having more than 100 consultants, is present in 5 countries and serves customers in a variety of sectors such as Banking and Insurance, Retail, Hospitality, Information Systems, Transport Services, Telecommunications, Education, Energy, Health and Public Administration.
