Management Consultant Role

Monday, 27 July 2015 by ricardo.santos@winning.pt

A management consultant is like a doctor, will diagnose the problem (illness), offer solutions (remedy), discuss the possible consequences of each alternative (the side effects), help to implement the decision (treatment), and observe closely to see that the suggestions are followed correctly to avoid unintended consequences (follow-up visits). And just as a doctor may work only with the patient or involve the family in the treatment, a consultant may work with just the CEO, the management group, or the total organization. Both the consultant and the doctor will reassess and change the course of action or treatment if necessary.

New Business Analyst Role

Tuesday, 07 July 2015 by ricardo.santos@winning.pt

Business Analyst should move to a Business Partner

Participating in the different phases of the business, acting as internal consultants and being able to demonstrate ROI and the value of its function and discipline, are the axes that will allow Business Analyst to be recognized as Business Partner.

The business analyst plays a central role in order to guarantee that the final product clearly defines the strategic product alignment to the business need. It also has a shared responsibility in setting the strategic criteria for the project’s completion, because they require the ability to listen and understand feedback from all stakeholders and use this feedback to drive the necessary changes to the requirements and priorities of the project.

Benefits

It is important to distinguish real benefits that are expect to be achieved with this change:

  1. Primitive benefits, such as: Increase the quality of the process and the business knowledge; Increase consultant motivation; and reduce customer dissatisfaction
  2. Instantiated benefitsthat have a direct economic impact: reduce rework process due to the numbers of mistakes; increase customer life cycle through a better relationship; and reduce the length of proceedings and associated costs by increased motivation.

This was one of the main messages of the 2nd Business Analysis Conference recently organized by Winning.
